Beach 2009 4's

This Saturday 15th August 2009 saw the second tournament of this summer's Airtel Vodafone Beach Volleyball events.

A great turnout performed brilliantly at the Gunsite Beach in perfect conditions, and the standard of volleyball was superb.

The womens In It to Win It League contained five teams, the results were so close that the finalists were deicided on points difference when three teams finished with three wins. The final between 2e2 and Whoozzah provided some great plays, and it was 2e2 that came out on top, in two sets.

The mens Not So Pro League saw LEJ Pythons face Platinum Pussies in their final and the Pythons slithered to victory to take the trophy.

The mens In It to Win It League provided a classic encounter between the top two teams; although again they had only made it through on points difference. Houze Old Gits had finished level after a superb win over the eventual winners of the title, but they had a lower points difference so didnt amke the final.

The team Airtel Vodafone came out victors over Roadkill in two sets to claim their title.

An excellent days tournament leads the way for the final event, the Twos Tournament on August 29th, with entry forms now available.

Beach 2's 2009

The final event in this summer's Airtel Vodafone Beach Volleyball Series was held on Saturday 30th August 2009 in glorious conditions at the Gunsite Beach.

The pairs competition is the purest beach competition and requires the most work and technique from all the players; the mixed fours and mens and ladies fours have lead to this final and highly demanding event.

In the Not So Pro section, the eventual winners were The Madeira Boys, consisting of Carlos Ferreira and Ruben Silva who played consistently to overcome the Platinum Pussies in the final. Their trophies were accompanied by new phones from Airtel Vodafone.

Both the ladies and mens, In It To Win It sections were closely fought during the day, with some fascinating games and results.

The Ladies final paired 2e2 against Whoooozzah, and this proved to be one of the best finals seen at the Gunsite. The first set was so close, but Whooozzzah seemed to be in control and indeed they took the set 21-19. The second set was just as close but this time 2e2 were able to seize the advantage, taking the final into the deciding third set. A good start for 2e2 gave them the upper hand and the experience showed as they were able to clinch another Jersey Pairs Title.

The Mens Final was just as close, and followed the story of the previous final. The Houze pairing took complete command of the first set, punishing their opponents with deep float serves, this allowed them to seal a 21-15 margin. Set two, and Bustin Skins regained their composure and opened up a lead which was too great, taking the set 21-17. So to the deciding set and just as close, with great skills on show, but the Bustin Skins were able to take the title 15-10.

A superb day of beach volleyball ending a triplicate of fantastic tournaments; thanks obviously going to Airtel Vodafone as the main sponsor for these events; also to the Transport and Technical Services and the Constable of St Peter.
